Having a dog is not much different than having a baby in the house. Many things that threaten humans are also harmful to dogs, and so are many things that humans can carelessly be around. If you have a fur baby, there are steps you should take to make sure the house is safe. Anything hazardous is out of their reach, and all consumable items are put away. Let’s take a step by step look at how you can make your house perfect for your dog.

  • Put up blockades: Your dog needs boundaries where she can safely play. Putting up boundaries around areas where you keep cleaning chemicals, around large appliances, tiny places like vents and low cupboards is important.
  • Keep food locked away: Your table scrap can be delicious and attract the attention of your little fur baby. But it is of utmost importance that you lock your food so they cannot get into the wrappers and choke, or eat themselves sick, or eat something innocuous like grapes which are toxic to dogs.
  • Make a den: Dogs are den animals. They need a cozy place for resting. Best dog beds for large dogs, or the one that fits your dog should be sturdy to withstand some chewing since it will be the centerpiece of the den and where your dog spends at least 10 hours a day.
  • Cover the garbage: Dogs love to go through anything that smells differently. Bonus points if it can make a huge mess. Cover and put away your garbage somewhere she can’t reach.
  • Close the toilet lid: Small dogs can mistakenly jump in and injure or drown themselves. Whereas the bigger dog breeds will definitely try to drink out of the toilet bowl. Close it every time you use the toilet.

A vicious circle starts when you do not address boredom when it strikes. While it is perfectly normal for everyone to get bored once in a while, once it becomes chronic it is asking for trouble. What starts as boredom ends in depression and lack of self-esteem? Nip the problem in the bud before it raises its ugly head.

I never want to be bored because I do not like the feeling of doing nothing and end up eating excessively without control. A lot of research revealed that this kind of eating is called emotional eating. We often turn to food for comfort and that is why when bored the easiest thing to counter it is to eat your favorite food. This is an unhealthy habit that must be stopped before it becomes a monster and overtakes your entire life.

Here are a few tips to counter mindless eating

  1. Step out: Every time the urge to snack due to boredom arises, just step out for a stroll or a walk. A change of scene will not only kill the boredom but also the urge to binge eat. You will come back with more focus and clarity.
  2. Read a gripping novel: Stories that appeal to our sense of mystery and problem solving always, and I repeat always, keep our mind so engaged that people often lose the sense of time and place. Make it a habit to carry such mystery novels handy as they will keep boredom away and that in turn will keep the desires of the tongue at bay.
  3. Talk to a friend: Call and catch up with a friend; it will lighten the mood and distract the mind from the evil siblings in the form of boredom and junk eating.

It is not going to be easy to give up eating when bored but you must not give up because it will otherwise affect your health adversely.

Have a lot of clutter around the house? Never felt the need to clean it all up? Even if you have a lot of space and tend to keep things clean and in its place, it is not a great idea to accumulate a lot of junk and clutter your living space. If cleaning up is the trouble, you can always get help from professionals like http://www.dumpsterator.com.

Why De-Clutter?

Still wondering why you should clean up in the first place? Here are some reasons why:

A cluttered home can attract a lot of germs and microorganisms over a period of time, thus giving way to infections and other health issues. One may think the house is clean and tidy but the clutter you have may not be so clean. A little mold growth in one of your child’s bath toys is enough to infest the entire room of toys and cause bacterial infections in the child. The worst outcome of this is, you will have no idea and would be addressing the wrong problems with wrong medications.

When there is too much stuff around you, you tend to feel claustrophobic. Even for those who don’t mind small confined spaces, a cluttered space can be uninviting. Over a period of time, it can cause depression to live in such a place.

Many times when you have too much clutter, you may forget what things you have kept them. As a result, you are either left to search for them in the nick of time or buy more of something you rarely use. This is not only a waste of money but also a waste of space as you will find another spot to stash it away after use and forget about it.

A house need not be totally free of clutter, spick, and span at all times. However, living in a house full of clutter is also not a healthy environment to live in.
